Believe In Your Own Magic With Corbie Mitleid
I ask you to take a moment and ask yourself, “How do I feel today? Do I feel happy? Do I feel how I choose to feel? Am I being in a feeling subconsciously not by choice?” I ask you to be here consciously and be here by choice because when the teacher shows up, it means the student is ready. I reverse that for you. It’s true. You are ready to let more in and you are ready for more growth. You want to grow your business. You want to grow your life. You want more improvement. That’s what we’re here for. Heartrepreneur is all about helping you and then you having the ability to help others.
I have an exciting guest with me. Her name is Corbie Mitleid. She is a psychic. She’s a channel and a medium. She’s been reading since 1973. She travels coast to coast. She travels into Canada. She’s a full-time intuitive counselor. She’s been on radio and TV. She’s going to inspire you because she’s an inspirational teacher, as well as a facilitator. Also, she is a featured channel in Robert Schwartz’s breakthrough series, Your Soul’s Plan and Your Soul’s Gift. She is also the author of Clean Out Your LifeCloset, The Psychic Yellow Brick Road, as well as You’ve Got the Magic, Who Needs A Genie?. I love the titles of these books. I’m happy to have you, Corbie. Welcome to the show.
It’s great to be here. Thank you, Terri.
I have to ask you this question out of my curiosity. All of a sudden, how do you know one day, “I’m a psychic. I can channel. I’m a medium?” How does that come to someone?
We all have different paths. It’s like how did you decide to be a doctor? It’s the 32nd spiel as I call it. When I was nine, I read a book called The Witch Family by Eleanor Estes. Instead of thinking, “That’s scary.” I thought, “Your point is?” I knew there was magic in the world. I wanted to get to it. Fast forward to 1973 when I was a senior in high school, working part-time at Spencer Gifts, they had the James Bond 007 tarot deck, and I bought it. Five years later, everyone else had moved to roller skates and disco balls. I was still reading because the cards fascinated me. I loved the stories that they would give me for my clients. All of a sudden, in 1994 after twenty years, I could do hands-on healing and talk to dead people with no training.
That’s when the universe said, “Here’s your trap notice greetings. You’re working for us.” I started doing it part-time. Meanwhile, I was an actress, an author, a legal assistant, a video producer and an executive recruiter, a very checkered career path. 9/11, as I watched the towers burn, I turned to my husband and I said, “I need to do the psychic work full-time. People need to know there are other answers out there.” He looks at me and says, “I believe in you. Go do it.” I never looked back. Now, at six days a week, I read 1,200 people a year. I get to get up every morning. I don’t have to get up every morning, and that’s huge.
First of all, I have goosebumps when you’re talking. I have the same wakeup call. I left being CEO of a national healthcare company with this wakeup call saying, “This is not what I’m supposed to do. This is what I’m supposed to do.” Like you, I’m blessed. I said to my husband, “I’m going to quit my job. It’s a lot of income and high, big title. I’m leaving because I’m supposed to help other people. I’m successful at starting, building businesses. That’s what I’m going to do.” He said, “I know you’ll do it and I know you’ll make a big difference.” Like you, I get up every day and I cannot wait for my day to start. It’s good to hear a kindred spirit and like a soul sister on the journey.
We are lucky that we have partners who get it. My husband is retired now. He was a museum director. He deals in historical verifiable fact. I deal with wicky-woo. We had complete respect for each other’s careers. He was willing to let me give it a shot and it’s terrific. He builds our outdoor deck and I’m still working. It’s exactly the way we want it.
What kind of people typically come to you? I’m always curious. I have an intuitive counselor in my life. People may be surprised to hear that because I’ve never talked about on the show. How do they find you?If you don't believe in yourself, no matter how many psychics you go to, the information will not stick. Click To Tweet
It’s not like the 1960s, everyone’s going to the therapist. There are several kinds of people who come to me. There’s always the one who wants the quick answers, “Does Bruce love me?” The ones that I love are the ones that are willing to dig into a situation, a problem. As I explained to them, I’m not Madame Hoohaa or Swami Sivananda. I’m not going to say, “Here’s everything that makes it better.” For instance, if you came to me about your entrepreneurial business, I wouldn’t say to you, “Wait until October, fire the redhead.” What does that do? I do a multilevel spread, you, the energy around the brick and mortar location and on and on. My best clients are the ones who want to be empowered, who realize they’ve got their magic. All they need to do is learn how to plug it in and learn how to believe in themselves. If you don’t believe in yourself, I don’t care how many psychics you go to. The information will not stick.
I’m glad you said that. I have different restaurants. There were mediums along the way my whole life. I would go and sometimes things would be fascinating and sometimes they wouldn’t click. Years ago, I met someone and resonated with the person completely. They said, “May I do a reading? I’m intuitive.” I said, “Yes.” I thought they were going to ask me, “What do you want to achieve or some goals?” What I love is we dug into my life. What happened to me, and this is why I still work with the person for many years, is now I am so much more intuitive. I listened to my intuition, which I never did. I would get that feeling and I’d go, “The logical part of my brain will make the decision. I’m not going to listen to you.” Now, I live intuitively. Anything you want to say to the audience about that?
One of my favorite sayings is, “I’m not special. You can do what I do.” I didn’t come from a line of 82,000 gypsies or Native Americans or whatever. As a nice Jewish kid from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, what did I know? The thing that I do encourage is to do your homework first. I do a lot of things. I’m a Certified Professional Tarot Reader. I also use half a dozen oracle decks. I am a past-life specialist. We can talk to spirit guides and angels. I’m a medium, but I’m not diluted. If Aunt Susie is on a field trip, she won’t be by the phone. If you’re coming into me for half an hour, please don’t say, “I didn’t know. Tell me what you see.” That’s like saying, “I want you to read my entire life story in half an hour. What I want is here, but if you only get this far, you’re no good.” Don’t play those games.
When you come to me, I will ask you, “What’s the most important thing you want to walk out of here knowing, so I know which tool to use?” If you go blank on me, I’ll go Brooklyn on you and go, “Darling, what’s biting your butt because everybody will find one of those,” then we start. I am your straight no-chaser reader. There is no fluffy bunny at my table, no glurpy purple with angels. It’s, “Here are your opportunities and how to grab them. Here’s the tough stuff. Here’s how to get through it or around it. Here’s your toolbox, go rock and roll.” That is the responsibility of a good intuitive, to give you the tools to go out of there and make your life better.
If they’re reading, how do they know like, “I’m a good candidate, I might be a good client, I might be someone who needs to talk with Corbie?” How does someone get that?
To be honest, if you’re feeling a little spark in here, that’s part of it. In my book, The Psychic Yellow Brick Road, I do bootcamp at the beginning, which is how to choose an unintuitive. If you go into a psychic expo, for instance, you don’t know any of us from Adam’s House Cat. The first thing you have to do is you’ve got to be like a good puppy. First, you do your walkies and you pick up all this stuff on the table. That means you get paper trained. You read through it and there will be 3 or 4 of us that you’re interested in. Come back and talk to us. Remember, we can tell you we’re wonderful and that doesn’t count. If we have a front person, we hire them to say they love us. You read the testimonials and it’s the same thing.
All of us who are professionals have testimonials on our website. If you want to talk directly to someone, we’ve got someone for you to talk to, for you to ask questions about what we do. The last thing is checking here. You are putting your hard-earned money on the table. If the psychic doesn’t feel like they have a brain in their head, they care about what they’re doing or they’re going to give you good information, don’t go there no matter how cool the Wiki will look on the website. It isn’t going to work for you.
I want to get to my personal knowledge. Clean Out Your LifeCloset, the name gave me goosebumps. What’s the overall goal of that book? Why should I read it?
I will hand $50 to anyone of the people in your audience saying, “I’ve never picked up a self-help book. I’ve never read a book.” We all do. We go into the bookstore and there’s this sexy title and there’s this great looking cover and we open it up. We flip and go, “That looks cool.” We bring it home and we start reading and it’s like, “She wants me to be a vegan and go to yoga classes? I live in New York. Is she nuts?” The point of this book is I trust the reader. It’s divided into four things: clarity, adaptability, simplicity and making friends with stress. It’s four of the things everybody needs. I start with, “Here are some of the stupid things I did. Here are some of my client examples and here are some thoughts we have.” The key is at the end of each chapter, there are what I call the adventure pages. They are open-ended questions where you can take what you read and make it fit your life specifically. By the end of the book, if you do all those, the book you read will be different than from the book your friend reads, even though it’s the same publication. It’s teaching you to trust your knowledge. Nobody knows your life better than you do.
I find it interesting, it seems like people rely on other people. I was listening to a conversation and someone was asking for career advice. I don’t know who was sitting with them, a friend or family member. They were telling them, “Do this. Don’t do this. Do that.” If the person gets quiet and they tune in, it’s all there. I didn’t know it was within me. Now that I do trust in myself, I can answer my own questions. How would you handle that? Somebody starts telling you, “Here’s what you need to do. Terri, you need this and you need to do that.”
It depends. If I was a client and I was sitting with the intuitive, I’d go, “Excuse me, Madame Hoohaa. I didn’t come here to hear about your life. I’m here to explore mine.” If it’s someone who means well, sometimes you have to look at them and they’re going on and on. When they’re done, you go, “Thank you for sharing.” You may think that if you wish you need to and go do what you need to do. If it’s a close friend, you can say to them, “I appreciate what you’re saying about your life but it’s important that I figure out mine.” It’s one of the reasons when I do intuitive counseling, there are two places that I may interject. One is if you are dealing with cancer, either yourself, a friend or family member, I’ve done the cancer dance three times. What I know from it, you may find useful.
If it’s a career question, they are my favorite questions because they used to be an executive recruiter for engineering and manufacturing. Do you want my left brain to kick in as well or do you want to stay with the right brain? Everybody wants the left and the right brain, and that’s fine. I’ve been given permission. One of my hot buttons is what I call the Drive-by Psychic Shooting. That’s what Theresa Caputo was supposedly doing on her show. She’d walk up to you with the frozen vegetables and go, “Excuse me. I have a message from your Aunt Dora. You’ve got to die in a car accident if you don’t get it fixed.” She’s telling you that and walks away. It’s like, “Who are you, woman?”
That’s why people are scared of psychics. They think we have no boundaries and we’re rummaging around in your brainpan. If you, as an intuitive, have something that you’re getting, you must say, “I think I have something for you. May I tell you?” If it’s no, it’s no. It’s the same thing for hands-on healers. You can be rolling around with a migraine and I could say, “I think I can pull some pain out. Would you like me to help?” If you say no, hands are off. Otherwise, it’s my freewill trumps yours, and that is one of the worst things that intuitive can do.
That’s the best advice I’ve heard about being transparent and sharing. I did not choose to have healed at a point in my time. I was ill and I wanted to work it out on my own and figure out what I needed to do. The person that I met, I spoke at an event and afterwards he came up to me and said, “I need to talk to you because I know exactly what to do. I’m a healer and I can heal you.” I found it intrusive and also interesting without permission. I don’t know why people do that. I don’t get it. It’s doesn’t work for me.
It’s because their ego is so involved in what they do. Even when I do hands-on healing, it isn’t me. I’m the tube. It comes through me. I’m the tool. The hammer does not go marching around on the back deck and says, “Look at that deck. Didn’t I do a great job?” No. Somebody else held the hammer and whacked his head against the nail. When you think of it that way, your ego doesn’t get involved. Ego is one of the most poisonous things that can slide in with an intuitive hands-on healer, anybody who does work with spirit. We are the tool. Upstairs is what does it. Whatever form you see, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Pagan, Ralph the wonder dog, I don’t care.
Let me ask you this question. If someone is reading this and they’re resonating with you, how do they reach out to you? What’s the best way to get in touch with you?
The first place is you go to my website, CorbieMitleid.com. If you’re a Facebook person, go to my business page, @FireThroughSpirit. @Corbie_Mitleid is on Instagram, @CorbieMitleid is on Twitter. I have a YouTube channel that we’re populating with some guided meditations and a lot of things on how to read cards, fear versus fame, all kinds of things like that. Depending on what you need. If it’s a reading that you want, if it’s a session with me, the website is the best way to go. You’ll see everything that I do.
Let’s say someone’s reading and part of them goes, “I believe in this whole intuitive counseling and part of my logical brain goes, ‘That’s a bunch of hooey.”’ What do they do with all that?Trust your knowledge. Nobody knows your life better than you do. Click To Tweet
Honor it. I love skeptics. Very often, when someone believes in all of this, there is a cosmic muffin. It’s like, “I stood in front of her desk for more than four seconds. Those are the angel’s thing. Have a reading here.” When you’re a skeptic, as long as you own it and you tell me, I may work with you in a slightly different way. I certainly won’t jargon at you. Somebody who does this a lot may understand, “Your numerology is this or your astrology is that, or I’m getting a past life.” I will be more in real world with them. I will ask them, “Are you getting it? Do you understand?” If they do understand, that’s going to get through this stuff. If you look at me and go, “Sure.” Sure is a way of saying, “I still don’t believe you, but I’ll be nice. I’ll call you on it.”
When you’re a theater major, the way I was, you get the nuance and your under-hearing is good. What’s under-hearing? We all have it. You and your friend, Betsy, are at dinner and she’s saying, “John took me out last night. It was great. We had a good time. We did this.” You look at her and your under-hearing clicks in and you’re good enough friends with her to say, “He stood you up, didn’t he?” “How did you know?” “Because I’m your friend and I hear what’s underneath.” We all have that under-hearing. That’s why it’s important to be honest with your intuitive, “No, I didn’t get it.” Maybe I’ll explain it in a different way. Maybe I’ll throw another card or pull-down more information to give you that clarity. It’s okay to say, “I didn’t get it,” and it’s okay to be a skeptic because when you do believe, you’re going to be one of the clear believers because you have internal visceral proof.
I’m glad that you said that he permitted people to say either, “I didn’t get it or I’m skeptical.” The first time that I had a reading, this was many years ago, I didn’t understand the reading at all. I remember something that kept coming up with water. I thought, “I have no idea what this person is talking about,” and I didn’t say anything. I walked away and I have no idea. A year later when I had done a lot more work on myself and began to be a lot quieter and to listen to my inner voice, I got what the whole water thing meant. I picked up, moved to Mexico in the winter, lived by the beach in Mexico. I live in New Jersey down the shore most of the rest of the year. I sold my house here.
I wish that someone had given me permission. I wish the person I spoke with said, “If you don’t get it, ask.” I kept thinking it meant something about like, “I have to drink more water.” I missed the point. I love not only your sense of humor, I love your openness. I also love one other thing about you and I want to tell the audience. A lot of times people get nervous. If I said, “I’m having an intuitive counselor,” people are like, “It could it be so woo-woo. Terri, you’re all about business advice. This is so woo-woo.” That’s why I wanted the audience to know. I, for many years, have had an intuitive counselor in my own life. I have learned so much in terms of listening to myself, which is why I believe my business grows easily. Is there anything in there that you can pick up on for our audience?
This is choosing the kind of person that you want. We are not here to amaze you. We are here in service. We are here to help you make your life. You make your life better. That’s why we do this. This is not the easiest thing. When I do a four-day show in Canada, it’s 36 hours open from 3:00 to 9:00, 10:00 to 9:00, 10:00 to 9:00 and 10:00 to 6:00. I read between 60 and 70 people on a weekend and do two lectures. I get a reader’s high when I do it. At the end of the day, put me in a body bag, take me back to the hotel. That’s why we love doing what we do and we do our best for you. We remind you, even the best of us, we’re only 85% accurate. The only 100% accurate is God and He’s not doing phone readings. It’s okay to question what we do. It’s one of the reasons that if you come to me, you’re going to get an MP3 recording, a download of what we do. For one thing, I’m a New Yorker. I talk fast. You’ll never remember everything if you’re taking notes and you’re not listening. When you have to go back to, something will click.
One of my best stories, Kitchener, Ontario, I used to go up there three times a year. There was a woman who sat with me and there were some challenging things I saw, which I told her about. She gets up, she looks at me and says, “You suck.” She walks away. Who was the first person back in my chair next time I’m up there? She sits down. She says, “Last time I said, ‘You sucked.’” I said, “Yes, I remember.” “It’s because you told me that I was going to probably want to take in a border and then I want to sell my house, and I thought that was all bull. My daughter got pregnant and moved home. Now, I’m going to sell my house so I can help raise my grandson. I still don’t like you, but I want to know what else you see.” “Don’t shoot the messenger, woman.” When you have that recording and you listen to it, you’re going to get layers of stuff. No psychic should ever be afraid to record either.
I’m glad that you said that about the recording. I had goosebumps three times when we’re talking. When I had that psychic, who was clear with me and this water thing kept coming up, I was not hearing. I always said, “I wish I could go back and rehear because now I know with all my might, it was about me living by the water and how much more peaceful I am, and how much more in tuned I am with myself.” I wanted the recording so bad. I love that you do that. I think it’s such a beautiful thing.
There are rare intuitives. I know one up in Canada, she’s an animal communicator. They fry electronics. She has tried for years to record, she can’t do it, so she writes the notes for you. No intuitive should say to you, “You are not permitted to record.” What are they afraid to have?
I’ve been doing these shows for years and years. I have never enjoyed a show so much. I not only enjoyed you, you gave tons of value. At the same time, you reinforced a lot for me. I love your humor. I would love to hang out with you some time. You are a fun person.
When you get someone to laugh, they lower the shields. The information gets in. It’s as much of a tool as anything else.
Please remind people how to get in touch with you. I’m going to say to the audience, even if you are skeptical, and I will be transparent, I went in skeptical. I now know that you have permission. Corbie said let her know. The logical part of my brain isn’t 100% in. I am going to tell you, this has been one of the greatest things in my life. Not just in terms of working with the intuitive, also learning to trust my own intuition. Those of you who are here, you’re leaders, you want to build a business, you want to improve your life, I can’t more highly recommend that you do this. Secondly, Corbie, I recommend you. You’re phenomenal. It’s a joy. How would people get in touch with you?
CorbieMitleid.com, that’s the website if you want an appointment with me. I’ve got a YouTube channel which will give you guided meditations and all kinds of instructional videos. Facebook, Fire Through Spirit. Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter are all @CorbieMitleid.
First, it’s been one of the most fun shows that we ever had. I have had a blast. You create so much value. I hope that the audience breeze this in and take some action. Thank you for being my guest here.
Thank you for being a good interviewer. I’ve done a lot of these shows and some of them, nothing gets through. You were prepared. You were engaged. I’m going to look good on your show because you did it for me.
For the readers, we have an assortment of people here. You’re not going to read the same old business advice every single week, “This is how you get leads. This is how you do this.” We’re looking at building a comprehensive life, a delicious life. A Heartrepreneur life is a life that includes all facets of life. I think Corbie has been one of the best additions that we’ve had. If you do want help with business building, we have a whole free video series. We’re not selling or pitching anything. Go over to TheUltimateBusinessGrowthSystem.com. I will train you to step-by-step, four videos, nothing to sell you, just tons of value the way Corbie came and delivered value. Thank you for reading. I will see you next time.

About Corbie Mitleid
Corbie Mitleid has always been “the different one.” A writer and visionary in a completely medical family (father a doctor, mother a nurse, brother a doctor), she has always made her own path rather than take one cut for her by others. Leaving an Ivy League university after two years, Corbie struck out to find where joy and purpose lived, regardless of what she was told she “ought” to do.
The path wasn’t easy. Two marriages, which didn’t last, and a constant search for the Partner Who Understood. A succession of jobs. A series of spiritual paths. Moving from Cambridge to Philadelphia to Poughkeepsie to New York City to Atlanta. Out of the blue, breast cancer—not once, but three times. Life became a roller coaster with no brakes, asking Corbie to survive divorce, abuse, poverty and life-threatening illness. But through all of this, she learned the value of the Examined Life: meeting challenges and always asking the next question, facing each new situation with strength, courage and humor.
Today, Corbie brings a full toolbox to her job as a beacon of manifestation and vision for her clients. She knows what it is to create a career out of experiences. While she’s now a full-time intuitive counselor and inspirational speaker, her career has encompassed positions as a published author, a professional actress, a television producer, a radio personality, an executive recruiter and the “power behind the throne” for a number of high-profile CEOs.
Corbie’s career now spans the globe, with clients worldwide. Her talents as an intuitive are featured in bestselling books. Still, her clients treasure her attitude of I’m not special, you can do what I do.
“We have opportunities we can go after, and challenges to get past,” she says firmly. “My job is to give you the tools and courage to deal with both situations. Everything else is free will, and up to you!”
Corbie lives in upstate New York with her husband Carle, a professional historian; two large and exuberant Maine Coon cats; and one feisty little rescue kitten from the Bronx.
