I stopped watching the evening news for many weeks. I had too. I noticed that there were so many devastating situations that I found myself feeling less positive as a result of what I was seeing and hearing.

Why is it that many of us expend so much energy focusing on negative situations as compared to being grateful for what is going well?

I have found that having both awareness and gratitude for what you recognize often lead to a happier state of being.

Awareness

There are so many positive things that cross our path each day; but oftentimes we are running to the next appointment and we don’t stop to pause so we can see with clarity, the beauty all around us.

It is so easy to look at the flat tire or the traffic jam and not recognize that you are right where you are supposed to be in that moment. There may be an accident up ahead that you would have been part of if you were exactly on time.

It’s so important to recognize that you wake up each day with a chance to start over.

Gratitude

Once you begin to train your brain to be aware of all that you have and how blessed you are you will begin to see more things for which to be grateful appear in your life.

Gratitude is a powerful tool of the mind. The more you are grateful and appreciative, the more you will have for which to be grateful.
