Hello, and welcome back here to Digital Marketing for Coaches & Consultants. I’m Dr. Terri Levine, your host. Hey, make sure you subscribe to the show. And if you dig it, please give us a five-star review and share it. All right, let’s get in. Today, in this very, very short episode, I’m going to talk to you about speaking. Now, even if you’re an introvert, and even if, maybe, potentially you’ve never thought of speaking before, I’m not talking about making a career as a speaker, I am talking about using speaking online or offline to grow a larger audience, and to have more people get to notice you, like you, trust you, and raise their hands to ask how to work with you. That’s reverse marketing.
If you’ve missed episodes on that, go back and watch all the episodes. So, how do you start speaking? It’s pretty simple. And, by the way, you don’t need to be a great speaker, you don’t need speaker training, all you do is talk about a topic that you know. So, I show up here to talk to you for just a few minutes. I don’t have any notes. I don’t need to memorize a speech. I, in the moment, say what would be important, in my case, for coaches and consultants who want to get a conveyor belt of qualified prospects every single day. Speaking. Speaking results in people raising their hand, asking to find out more, filling out forms on your website, asking to work with you, engaging with you.
So, how do you start speaking? Well, you can do some Facebook Lives, or whatever platform of choice you have, Instagram Reels. You can ask other people who host lives like I do in my Facebook group, “Can I do a live? Can you interview me?” You can start a podcast like this. That’s speaking. You can get a small group of people together locally, eight or 10 people, and teach them a topic and videotape it so then you’ll be able to optimize and leverage your talk many, many times in many ways over again. You can do a webinar. You can do it seminar. You can do it in person, or you can do it by Zoom, and you can do it every which way you want.
Just start speaking. I don’t care if there’s three people in the audience. I’m going to share a little story with you. When I first started in this industry, I’d already been speaking on stage since age five. However, when I started in this industry, I was unknown. I was coming from being in the rehabilitation industry, the CEO of a national healthcare company. So, here I show up. I’m a coach and a consultant, no one knows me, this is 30-something years ago. So, what did I do? Well, we didn’t have Zoom, and webinars, and we didn’t have video cameras, we barely had an Internet back then.
So, what did I do? I started speaking at my local grocery store, I started speaking at a massage therapy place, I started speaking at a local agency. I spoke about six times. From the six speaking gigs — and they were small, and each one maybe had five to 15 people — not only did I bring on four incredible client family members, one of them led me to a corporate contract well over $400,000. So. you never know. Don’t worry about getting paid to speak, don’t worry about closing, opening, manipulating, pitching, just show up and teach value and education, that gets people to raise their hands and say, “How do I get to work with you?”
