While most business advice focuses on actions for achieving success, many individuals struggle to attract new, quality prospects. In this thought-provoking episode, Dr. Terri Levine breaks away from conventional wisdom and flips the script. Instead of advising on what to do to succeed, she highlights 5 Things to Avoid to Ensure You Don’t Succeed.

First on her list is ‘Giving up.’ She emphasizes that giving up is a sure way to derail your entrepreneurial journey before it even begins. The second pitfall is ‘Insisting on figuring everything out on your own instead of seeking help.’ Dr. Levine underscores the importance of leveraging the wisdom and experience of others to navigate the complexities of business.

‘Not putting in the work’ takes the third spot, emphasizing that success demands dedication and hard work. Fourth, she highlights the damaging impact of a victim mindset and how it can hold you back from realizing your potential.

Lastly, she advises against constantly chasing the next shiny new thing, a common pitfall that frequently ensnares aspiring entrepreneurs and individuals on the path to success.

Hi there, welcome back to Digital Marketing for Coaches & Consultants. I’m Dr. Terri Levine. I’m going to be really blunt with you, I find that a lot of business advice, quite frankly, sucks. People are telling you to be successful, you have to, I don’t know, meditate for 20 minutes, do ice baths, fill your gratitude journal up, go for a walk, look in the mirror and say a bunch of affirmations, and all this kind of stuff. Not that there’s anything wrong with doing any of those things, right? It just doesn’t make you better at business sales and marketing.

And so many people go into their businesses and in six months are in the same spot where they’re not getting enough prospects, or really, good prospects. So, I’m going to go through some have-tos to create success for you, and some that you don’t have to. And almost everyone who doesn’t make it is doing at least one of these, I’m going to be really upfront with you. Literally, you can spend $10,000 on a great coach consultant mentor course, and you won’t make progress if you recognize any of these in yourself. So, I’m going to give you five things to do to make sure you won’t be successful.

The first thing is what I call giving up. It’s like, as soon as the challenge comes, you’re posting online, and you’re not getting a lot, it’s like, “Yeah, I tried, it didn’t work.” In business, there’s going to be times when things don’t take that quickly. And in marketing, they don’t. And the only way that you can assure your failure is just giving up really, really quick. The second thing is, instead of asking for help, you just sit there trying to figure out everything on your own and testing this, this, and the other thing. That’s a really good way to fail, not learning from people who’ve been there, done that. Not asking valuable questions, it’s a great way to make sure you won’t progress at all.

So, don’t try to figure things out on your own, definitely find out the answer to things that are proven to work. The third thing that will create failure for you is not putting in the work. Everyone wants to just get to their dream life in working maybe two hours a day, or something like that, and that can happen once your business grows to the established amount. However, in the really early stages of your business, you’ve got to do some work. And the more you do, the faster you’ll see results. And, if you’re working on the wrong things two hours a day, 30 minutes a day, eight hours a day, you’re not going to make progress.

The next mistake is having a victim mindset. We believe nothing’s going to go your way. Everything is somebody else’s fault, you point the finger of blame, and yet, hundreds, thousands of people are being really successful, and you’re not, and you can’t figure it out. You’re like, “Oh, my price must be too high, I must have the wrong audience.” It’s a guarantee that if you’re going to sit around and blame everyone else, and not fix what’s not quite right yet in your business, you’re going to fail. And the fifth one is start the next shiny new thing. I see this all the time, it’s like, “Well, this niche isn’t working,” or, “This course isn’t working.”

So, every month or two, you’re starting something else, like, “Oh, it was that business model that didn’t work, let me try something else.” It was Bruce Lee, who said, “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” Let that one sink in. Starting something new over and over again is definitely a way to fail and not see fast results. So, if you’re an action taker, and if you’re really working on hitting your goals, be honest with yourself. Do you recognize yourself in any of the things that I just talked about here? Are there any of these that you’re struggling with?

What we do here, just so you know, at Heartrepreneur, we work with a limited amount of people every month, personally, to help them get past these kinds of roadblocks. And I’m here to help you in any way, shape, or form. Keep listening to the podcast. I would love your reviews of the podcast and for you to share it around so we can help more people be successful here. Terri Levine signing out for now at Digital Marketing for Coaches & Consultants.
