Welcome back to Live Well, Earn Well. I am your host, Dr. Terri Levine, and delighted that you have joined me. Now, today, I want to talk about how you can be super creative. I’m going to give you five tips that are going to change the concept of vision board. I know you’re familiar with the concept. And if you follow me at all, you’ve been listening to the podcast, or if you’re part of my Facebook community@heartrepreneurs.com, you will know that I’m a big proponent of vision boards. It’s such a fabulous way, in my experience, for you to focus on the dream life and the dream business that you would like to have.
And I think it puts, I don’t know, it’s tremendous, I know what I want to say, stress reducer. That’s what it is. Because as you create your dreams, which is your vision, it’s fun, and it takes stress away. And it’s really a fun thing to do with a bunch of friends as well. Now, some people just don’t like going through old magazines, and some people just have trouble creating vision boards. I’m going to show you how to do this without any cutting and pasting, and it really works, and it’s super effective. And I’ve had vision board parties before, which are really fun.
So, first, we’re going to talk about five things. We’ll start with digital vision boards. It has the same effect as cut and paste kind of vision boards that people typically do. Go online, there’s free photos everywhere. I use Adobe Spark’s free collage maker. It’s totally free, I’m a big fan of Adobe Spark. It’s a really fun alternative. You can work on it for a few minutes at lunch, or maybe you just don’t have a stash of magazines. And when your digital vision board is complete, that’s what I have on my phone. By the way, it is the wallpaper of my computer and it is also the wallpaper of my phone.
So, I get to see it every single day, and that’s really important to me. Here’s the second way that you can do this being creative, make the vision board part of your office decor. If you’re hosting clients in your office like I do for VIP days, you might not want to have your cut-and-paste vision board displayed, however, you can take your vision board and you can get a very inexpensive frame. We have a store here called Michaels. The other thing that you can do is, instead of a collage template, you can frame each individual large-sized photograph, digital photograph.
You can take, for example, let’s say you’re walking along the beach and you see a beach house you love, or you’re online and you find a great picture of that, or it’s a wonderful vacation spot… My husband and I right now are looking at going to Peru, and we are taking all kinds of beautiful pictures from the internet of it. So, for a vision board to work, this is the big secret here, you’ve got to be able to see it every day. And when you have framed photos in your office, it serves the same purpose and inspires you to reach your goals, and that’s what we’re all about.
Tip number three is add a mix of people, places, and things. A lot of times when I teach vision boarding, people expect, “I’ve got to go buy an expensive car, Gizmo, or gadget.” It’s not about money. So, I live as a minimalist. I am all about loving people and experiences, not things. So, who are the most important people in your life? Are they in your vision board? Where do you dream about, maybe, traveling or living? There’s so many amazing things in life, and not just accumulating the best, biggest house or car.
Number four: Turn your vision board — this is a clue that I really like — into a journal. Into a journal. What better way to combine your vision board than with journaling? And it’s the cover of my journal, as a matter of fact. I have photos of my vision board that I took and I printed them on some heavy card stock, and I resized it to fit the cover of my journal. And then, I just, not real fancy, I glued it on there. And then, every day when I write about the events of the day, I am looking at my goals, at my vision.
And you and I both know there’s a lot of challenges and things that come up in life. I just told my friend the other night, “Life is chaos. It just is.” That’s how it is, and the vision board will keep you grounded. Let me give you my last tip, and that is to use Pinterest which I almost never talk about. Pinterest really goes hand in hand with vision boards. It’s so much easier to use than even using a collage maker. Now, I used to have a Pinterest account, I don’t know. I didn’t want the whole world to know my hopes and dreams because it’s personal. So, you can make some boards and Pinterest secret so only you see it.
Now, the only downside is Pinterest boards fill up very, very quickly, so sometimes it’s hard to focus on what you really do want. So, my tip for that is you make several vision boards, one for each area of your life. So, you might have work, home, vacation, I don’t know, where I want to live, that sort of thing. That way, you take a screenshot of your boards from the Pinterest dashboard, and you’ll still be able to see what you’re working to achieve. I don’t know what you dream of.
Do you dream of being wealthy? Do you dream of being successful? So many people think they can’t be successful or wealthy, and they have a lot of reasons as to why. Now, I’m going to tell you those are excuses. Anyone who has those just doesn’t yet have a prosperity mindset. Did you know your mindset can change? You’re not doomed. Make sure that you join my community, and that is where I continue to give you tips to turn your mindset around so you can recognize new success and earning opportunities in your business. So, go over to heartrepreneurs.com and you’ll be part of our community.
