Welcome back to Digital Marketing for Coaches and Consultants. I’m your host, Dr. Terri Levine. And today, I’m going to talk about some of the big mistakes that coaches and consultants make and how you can avoid them. And I will say that even experienced coaches and consultants that I’ve worked with make a lot of mistakes when they’re taking their business online. And so, I’m going to teach you some things that you can watch out for.

The first thing is a lot of them don’t market their services enough. Do you market your services really enough? It’s one thing to be very confident in your abilities, and it’s another to assume that clients are going to come running to you because your expertise stands out. Coaching and consulting is now a very competitive field populated with skilled professionals. Attracting, retaining, and expanding your client base needs to be an ongoing effort. Promoting your business every chance you get will pay off.It will help you grow, it will help you. literally. outrank the “competition” and outgrow them and stay in front of them.

Once a prospect or client has been attracted to you, you’ve caught their eye, don’t let them just go. So, give them free resources, give them discounts, give them limited-time offers. You’ve got to create some sense of urgency because human beings like to put things off. The second thing is do not make too many promises. I just saw something today with this, like, “Life-changing results from a $99,” or something, or other. It’s not magic. We don’t magically transform someone’s life, so don’t create high expectations that can’t be met. It’s not good for business. It’s really disappointing for clients.

So, there’s got to be a balance. Reassure people they’re in good hands, you’ve got their back, yet let’s not put miracles out there. It might be a good idea to create a frequently asked questions section. You can have that on your website, frequently asked questions about coaching or consulting. Just be super honest about what clients can achieve through coaching and consulting, as well as the limitations. The other thing that people really don’t do when they’re marketing, and I see this a lot, is they don’t go the extra mile. A lot of times, people come to us and they share their thoughts, and their feelings, and then folks that want to take their business online, go, “Oh, I’m not going to be able to do that.”

So, you have to have some way of still allowing your online people to communicate with you. Whether it’s through videos, whether it’s through an app like Marco Polo, or slack, an integrated online program should have some type of live components. So, my clients either get live on Facebook, or live on Zoom, or they get videos in Slack. And I think that these things can make a very big difference if you just start applying them because they’re everyday mistakes that people are making. On your journey, I want you to be enjoying your life, enjoying your clients, and enjoying your time.

And I’m here to help you, so just go over and join our community. There’s over 8,000 people just like you that I serve and support for free. It’s over at facebook.com, it’s a group called Heartrepreneurs with Terri Levine. I’d love to see you in there. Keep listening to the podcast, share it. Here to help you. Bye for now.
